NanoWrimo, is this the end?

20,534 words; Thats how many I’ve written in November. I was really doing well until the laptop I was using broke (still have yet to fix it). I’d like to finish the novel I started but I don’t know if I’ll have time now that I don’t have to dedicate so much to it. Plus, it’s really hard to write at home. So once again:

The End

I think that one day I would like to own a store called The End. We could sell all sorts of fashionable goods, like jam made by the Amish or something. Then I could advertise for the store by putting up signs in the area, they would read:

THE END
IS NEAR
only two more blocks

Then I would pay bums to hold up the signs on street corners to help draw even more attention. I could have more signs that said things like “THE END IS NEAR: Better Accessorize!” or “THE END IS NEAR: Its time for a new hat!”

Basically I’m going to make a million dollars.

Shameful Promotion + Pictures to Frame

I’ve been cruising around the internets a bit recently and I’ve found a couple images that would look beautiful printed out and framed. This first piece is by Enfuego(Hi Katie!) and is awesome. The Glasses, the exposure, the whole tone. It’s a wonderful balance and I likes it.

Our second cool picture to frame is actually from a 1960’s guide to building Fallout Shelters. Luckily there are bloggers out there that save this stuff and put it online. This little kid is reading a guide to surviving nuclear holocaust.

.

.

Our Final, piece isn’t actually something I would frame. It’s a little image I made. I saw it on a stencil on some kids deviantart page but I can’t find it anymore. He’s from Austria and recently died. If anyone knows what I’m talking about feel free to comment and give us a link.

Daily Show and You

[nanowrimo update]: Despite taking several days off from writing I’m ahead again! Whoo!

Tonight I was writing at Barnes and Nobles. I didn’t even buy any food there! It was great! I tried to see if they had the three mousquetaires in french but they didn’t. I had the intention to buy something but nothing to buy. Then I saw this months rolling stone. I’ve never read that particular publication before as it looks like trash. This time however, I picked it up. Inside was a wonderful article about Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert. The following doesn’t really have much to do with the interview, its just some reflections I had afterwards.

Society’s Mirror:
The Daily Show and the Colbert report are probably more trusted than real news shows. It seems to me that just about every edifice for news has a slant. You can’t really trust anyone. One day the news is a study showing that wine makes your body super extra awesome cool and the next it turns out that it actually liquefies your insides. Everyone has such a huge agenda with everything that everything is obviously wrong. Like with Bush, either he is the best president we’ve ever had or he’s a maniacal mad man that ordered 9/11. Both are flat out wrong. The Daily show also has an agenda. The difference is that their agenda is to make me laugh. And they do a damn good job too.

The Daily show is awesome because, to me, it reflects society. Politics are a joke without a punchline and because of the Daily Show, now we have that punchline. It points out the absurdity of the whole system and keeps me laughing. I therefore salute you Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert. You get a Narcore Awesome on the Whack Awesome Rector Scale. Good job, its the highest anyone has ever gotten!

Mobile Music Library – Suck It iTunes

I have some musical website endorsements for y’all tonight. The first is called mp3tunes. Basically it stores music you upload on a server that allows you to manage your music remotely and sink it to up to 3 different computers for free (more computers if you have a paid account). It also lets you listen to your music library from any computer. This is cool for those of us that have multiple work stations and load music in different places. If I add music to my library at work then when I get home I can just have mp3tunes sync up the new tracks to my hard drive. Another cool thing is that rather than just uploading your tracks to mp3tunes you can also set it to download tracks from any url you input. So if someone posts a song you like you can have mp3tunes download it and add it to your library without downloading it directly. This brings us to the second cool site of the evening -> Sideload.com

Sideload basically just tracks music that is posted on the internet. So if someone posts a song that is legal or illegal somewhere sideload.com tracks it and lets you download it or automatically load it into your mp3tunes music locker for free. The con is that some of the links go down so you can’t download the music anymore. As long as it is up you can load that music into your mp3tunes library with just a click of a button.

Now if iTunes could do that it would be pretty cool but it can’t so it is still lame. To make things even better, all the music is DRM free so you can do whatever you want with it. Its pretty much rad and I enjoyed it so I thought you might too.

Indie Music Reviews

By way of addendum I’d like to add in a topical site that a friend of mine runs and I enjoy. Shepizzle.com is a great place to get and read music reviews on great indie bands. He always goes through the trouble of finding a few free listening resources so visitors can hear the music.
