Who Started Nerdcore?

There has been quite a bit of buzz around Nerdcore latley. For those of you who don’t already know what Nerdcore is, it’s basically geek rap. Guys rapping about their favorite star wars character or whatever else.

Guys like mc chris(this is also an example of what Nerdcore sounds like) have been featured in channels less nerdy than the internet. Aqua Teen Hunger Force had him on playing the part of MC Peepants.

So now there are some documentaries (Nerdcore Rising) on Nerdcore (Nerdcore for Life).

Anyway, there’s a lot of stuff about how MC Frontalot started Nerdcore. Of course he did coin the term but I think we should recognize some of the pre-Nerdcore rappers that were rapping about things nerds cared about before MC Frontalot gave it a name.

Introducing ::drum roll::

Del The Funky Homosapien:

Del or Deltron Zero as he sometimes goes by was in the rap group Deltron 3030 and as had a guest appearance in the Gorillaz song that everyone knows.

I know that everyone involved has ridiculous names but this is pop-culture and counter culture and these cultures only represent society talking to it self, so if anything it’s your fault. That there is a rapper named Optimus Rhyme. Anyway, back to Del.

In 2000, Del released the song Protoculture on a solo album(Both Sides of the Brain). Just follow the bouncing link and enjoy an awesome song about video games. More importantly he raps about all the games I played. It’s one of the classics and it raps all about what was happening in games at the time. The whole neo-geo saga along with the PSX VS N64 thing. I think of it as a tribute to my early-teenage years.

The second song I thought about from Del is a song called “Upgrade” that he did with Deltron 3030. That ones about how being smart will pay off.

Whether you think Nerdcore is stupid or the coolest thing since you tossed your 56k modem its gaining ground and the rest of the world is going to have to deal with it sooner or later.

Problems and Contradictions:
Nerdcore is a nerd rapping movement and nerds are traditionally white. However, I do have a excellent source that shows that black people can also be nerds. Thats right, Bad Boys. John Salley plays an ultra nerdy black hacker that was in jail and hacks into some confidential files for Will Smith and the other dude. So, there can be black nerds. If it’s in a movie then it has to be true.
